How to use the Party Wall
Assemble ownership and title information, the proposed works and drawings, relevant excavation dimensions, service evidence and any surveyor appointments before creating the matter.
The workspace starts blank. Load example temporarily fills the controls with demonstration data; reload or use the tool’s New or reset action, where provided, before entering live information.
- Choose Units, enter the Matter title and owners or interests, property references and surveyor or adviser appointments.
- Select the work categories that may be relevant and record excavation distance, proposed depth and adjoining foundation depth where applicable.
- Describe the works and cite drawing or document revisions, then enter service date, method and email consent where relevant.
- Track each adjoining response and generated action, retaining service and appointment evidence with the saved matter chronology.
Worked examples
These examples explain the set-up, expected output and review needed without changing the tool workspace.
Excavation information pack
- Set-up
- Record the nearest excavation distance and depths with the structural drawings and the known adjoining foundation information.
- Result
- The matter groups the facts and identifies issues that require a party-wall specialist to assess.
- Review
- Verify boundaries, ownership, foundation assumptions and the proposed construction before preparing any notice.
Service and response tracker
- Set-up
- Enter the actual service date and method, then record each adjoining owner response as pending, consent, dissent or no response.
- Result
- The chronology exposes the working dates and next actions associated with the recorded route.
- Review
- Check valid service, statutory timing and appointments with a qualified adviser; do not use the tracker as a notice.
Suggested workflow
Place the tool in a controlled project or practice process rather than treating its output as an isolated verdict.
- Verify titles, owners and the design information relevant to the adjoining property.
- Use the record to prepare a complete factual pack for specialist advice and valid service.
- Track responses, appointments and superseded information without overwriting the original chronology.
Check before saving or issuing
- Legal names, addresses and title references have been verified from appropriate records.
- Dimensions and drawing references describe the current proposed works.
- Service evidence and response status are retained separately for each adjoining interest.
Common problems
- Dates are unreliable: confirm the service method, actual service event and any required consent before using calculated dates.
- Excavation screen is inconclusive: obtain adjoining foundation and boundary information rather than guessing.
- One adjoining property has several interests: create and track each relevant owner or interest explicitly.
Output
A matter chronology and review record for party-wall coordination.
Professional boundary
This is not legal advice or a validated statutory notice; title, service, timing and project facts require specialist review.
